11/18/2008 - Memphis, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Antonio Anderson scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and 13th-ranked Memphis ripped Massachusetts, 80-58, to make John Calipari the winningest coach in program history.
The win was Calipari's 221st at Memphis. Calipari is now one win ahead of Larry Finch, the former Memphis player who coached the team from 1986 to 1997. The second-winningest coach in UMass history, Calipari moved to No. 1 at Memphis with a win over former assistant Derek Kellogg, in his first year as coach of the Minutemen.
Kellogg played for Calipari at UMass and spent the last eight seasons as his assistant at Memphis before taking the coaching job for the Minutemen.
Blue-chip freshman Tyreke Evans scored 19 points for Memphis (2-0), which has opened its season with two easy wins. Robert Dozier scored 18 points for the Tigers, who have two more tune-ups before a game at No. 22 Georgetown on December 13.
Tony Gaffney had 19 rebounds and 16 points for UMass (1-2), which has dropped consecutive games after a season-opening win over Arkansas-Monticello. Ricky Harris added 17 points for the Minutemen.
Kellogg's squad held tight with his mentor's Tigers early, and led 16-15 after a Harris three with 7:45 left in the first half. The heavily favored Tigers responded with an 11-0 run, though, with Evans draining a three and adding two other baskets, and a dunk by Anderson gave Memphis a 26-16 lead with 4:49 left.
UMass cut to within 33-25 at the half, but Memphis pulled away for good after the intermission. The Tigers lead stood at 39-31 after a Harris layup with 17:13 left, but Memphis pushed its advantage to 15 points over the next five minutes, and UMass was never able to cut back to within single-digits.
The Tigers won despite shooting 39 percent from the field, and making only 2- of-19 three-pointers. UMass was even worse from the field, at 30 percent, and made only 5-of-24 three-pointers.
Game Notes
In the only previous meeting on the hardcourt between these schools, Calipari's top-ranked UMass beat then-No. 3 Memphis on January 4, 1996...Shawn Taggart had 11 rebounds and seven points for Memphis.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
